I have WindowsXP, Internet explorer 7, all updates, latestest version of
windows installer. I received a notice to upgrade WD ver 1.14.1929.4. I
have tried, but the download screen comes up and nothing happens. Can anyone
help??

Hi oldlady, I'm an old cat

goto Microsoft/Windows Update and under Options on the left side of the
Window, click Review your update history. See if there is an entry
1.14.1929.4

Let me know what it shows. If nothing there, click the Windows Defender
Icon and on the WD window click the down arrow to the right of the white ?
(help), Click Check for Updates. Again, let me know what happens.

Hi all

I same problem as "oldlady". I try and download the new WD file, but nothing
happens, just a blank page.

I did lok at my update history, and yes there is an entry there for
1.14.1929.4.

What do I do now???

Thanks

B

As long as the home page (at the bottom) for Windows Defender shows the
definition file as 1.14.1924.4 and the update history under Microsoft/Windows
Update shows successful, you are OK. I don't know why the blank page, but
let's see what happens on the next cycle of definition updates.

Looks like I get the same problem ..... it validates ok and then asks me to
download. I download and a separate window opens. This window just stays
blank/white and the prgress bar at the bottom seems to stop at about half-way.

Hi..old cat. Yes, I do have that update. Is that the new version now? I
really appreciate the help.

I tried your download, and the same small blank window came up...nothing
asking if I wanted to save or run, then the thank-you from MS for
downloading. If it is on my computer, how do I find and delete now?

Hi Bill...I just tuned in today, so have done everything suggested down the
line. My validation works fine, Pop-up blocker is off, and test is ok. I
hsve never had a problem before this WD thing, but then EX7 and windows
installer are both new. Would these cause the notification asking if I want
to run or save file to disappear? What now?

That was the latest available definition update. The latest Windows Defender
software version is 1.1.1593.0 Again if you click the down arrow to the
right of the ? and click About, you will get the three version numbers for
Windows Defender.

Again ..thank-you. However, when going through replies yest., the prob. being
addressed by Bill Sanderson still exist re the download notification window
that show progrss and whether to run or save. Do U know how to fix??

No. Periodically look at the posts under this thread. Usually Mr. Sanderson
comes up with something.

Bill, My diagnostics was all OK. I think there may be a problem with
IE7cause this a.m. I tried to go to the tweak that makes IE7 look like 6 for
those sites that need 6. When I clicked on the link, the same thing
happened, the page came up blank, with a red x in the top left corner....no
explanation anywhere. Ant Ideas???

"Validate" button (as per below) comes back 100% fine.
Tried the diagnostics link too - all passed with no problem.
I have turned off my ad-blocking and still makes no difference.

However ..... I now no longer get just a blank white page. I get a download
box and its seems to want to download as the animation shows a piece of paper
travelling from the world to a file, but it just stays like this and nothing
happens. The download time does not count down and the progress bar does not
even start.

Any ideas??

I am using IE7

Sounds like our problems are similar. I am at a total loss as to what is
causing the problem, but I think it must be IE7, because the blanc pages with
red x come up mainly when I try to do stuff from the Microsoft sites eg. some
tweaks for IE7. I am not knowledgeable enough to change security settings in
IE7 without help...maybe someone will give us an answer????

Thank you! Reading through your post I remembered what my problem was. I use
Maxthon (a tabbed browser that uses IE), and I cannot do the validation in
anything but IE.
