Anyone ever see this? I have an XP Pro SP2 machine with IE6. It will not
download a file of any kind. The indicator bar and percentages all work but
when I search for the file it is not there. This machine is all clean of
viruses, spyware and Hijacks. Downloads using Firefox work fine.

The behavior is a known issue in Defender Beta2. It's usually also seen
when trying to open email attachments.

Try this:

Start > Run > (type in) Regedit > OK

Navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Discardable\PostSetup\ComponentCategories\{56FFCC30-D398-11D0-B2AE-00A0C908FA49}

Right-click on it > Delete it > Close Regedit > Reboot.

Microsoft has established separate newsgroups for Windows Defender Beta2
support and comments. This issue is much-discussed there. If doing the
above doesn't help, I suggest that you post about this to one of those
newsgroups. (Having upgraded to a newer version of NAV might be involved
here.)

Yo PA Bear, Thanks for the possible fix but that Key was not there. Turns out
that Defender was uninstalled at some point. Anyway, the problem seems to
have fixed itself. Maybe we had corrupted virus (Norton) definitions.

Thanks PA Bear.. I was having the same problem and re-installing Windows
Defender fixed the problem. Turns out that when I checked add/remove
programs - windows defender wasn't even listed. So, I found the download and
re-installed. IE is now downloading.
Thanks again PA Bear.....
