If someone has a cable connection and would like to download a file
about 120 megs in size, what download accelerator would someone
suggest? A program that would split the file and try to make multiple
connections to the server. Something that could be used only when the
user wanted. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Most programs that are discussed as "download managers" in this group
are actually download accelerators. I like Fresh Download from
<http://www.freshdevices.com/>, but there were at least two treads about
this topic the last two weeks. I would suggest you do a Google groups
search for "download manager", that would probably turn out helpful.

I think the only imortant thing is to make a download resumable, and they
all do that (AFAIK!),They also log it, so you can find the url again.

I've not found any that accelerate downloads, thoough many claim 4 - 5
times the speed.

You can choose whether to use them or not, they have browser integration,
or not, depending on your choice. Sometimes they can be confused when you
click on a link, if it's not directly to a file, and download the URL it
was pointing at.

I use Netants, purely because it's simple and I like it - it has a drop
box, which is a sort of halfway integration, where you just drag and drop a
filename to the box and it carries on.

These features are IME common to just about all, so I'd better duck while
enthusiasts for other brands flame me.

(this could be a rerun of "lawnmower wars", personally I 5think a hover is
more bovver)

You have to register it to make it work.

Thanks a lot! I decided to give Fresh Download a try. It works very
well and the file I wanted downloaded within minutes. I had 4
connections to the sever and the download moved along very nicely.

Hi, maybe you can try this?

Hello,

You may also want to try WinGet. It has full browser integration. Works in
conjunction with Microsoft Internet Explorer, Opera and Netscape. It can
monitor clicks in the browser and it integrates in the browser's
right-click menu.
