download a site

You can do the exact opposite of what you did to publish it. In FP you open
it by pointing FP to the same place you published it to then you publish it
to whatever location you choose to on your local computer. It's hard to get
very specific though without knowing exactly how you published before, such
as http or ftp.

How can I download/publish/ftp this site to my computer so that it
can be placed on a new host? http://www.scawc.org

Many thanks.

Well, you use Publish but instead of the source being a local disk and the
target the server, it is the other way around.

In FP 2003,
Click "Web Site" at the top
then
"Remote Web site" at the bottom

There are two buttons at the bottom right
[] Local to remote
[] Remote to local

The two sites need to be defined, one as local and the other as remote.
(Note that remote could be the hard disk.)

Click on the appropriate button

In FP 2002, I don't think this was set out as well, but you can still do it.

Trevor,

I use FP 2003. I did not publish that site. It was created by a proprietary
program that belongs to the hosting site. The owner of the site, the Sun
City Anthem Women's Club is wanting to move it to a different hosting
company. I am a member of the Sun City Anthem Computer Club and have been
asked to assist. I'm stumped.

Since it was created by a proprietary application it is unlikely the
site will have FrontPage extensions.
In this case, use an FTP program to download the site to a folder on
your computer.
First create a folder - I suggest create a new folder at C:\sun-city
(note: no spaces or full stops [periods] in the folder name).
Next open your FTP application (if you don't have one, use Internet
Explorer).
Type in the FTP address for the site - get this from the host, along
with the login details.
In IE type the address in the form ftp://ftpaddress, in a "real" FTP
program leave out the ftp://

When connected, login using the credentials from your host. Then move
all the folders and files to the new folder just created. (if using IE,
you will need to have Windows Explorer open at the same time, with the
new folder opened in it. Drag the files and folders from IE into the
folder.)

Ron,

Big problem-Solved. The site did not support FTP. However, the host provided
a *.jsp file. Panic! One of the club members suggested that the *.jsp could
be changed to file extension to *.zip.

Thanks for the assistance...

If the site is based on JSP, then whatever web host you are moving the site to, must also support
JSP. This is not something that FP supports.

To learn about JSP, see the following:
