"Downgrading" XP Pro

Can you downgrade to XP Home without going through a complete
uninstall and re-install? XP Pro just has too much extraneous
features that I've found I just don't need. Got too ambitious, I
guess.

You really will have to go through a completely un-install and install.

I'm more than curious about what you find so extraneous that forces you
to conceive of moving to XP Home as a solution?

The differences can be safely ignored and are largely hidden from view,
especially when no looking? Why not just ignore things you don't want

You will likely be disappointed if you downgrade to the Home version because
you will not see any difference in the way it looks or works. Pro does have
some extra tools and options available, but unless you specifically use
these, they are hidden from view.

There is no way to "downgrade" an operating system, you would need to format
and install the other version.

No, no downgrade is possible. You have to install XP Home
cleanly.

That's fine, but why downgrade? XP Home is a subset of
Professional. You get nothing you don't already have, and
downgrading is just a waste of money and effort. You may not use
Professional's extra features, but having them there doesn't hurt
you, except for the few cents worth of extra disk space they
take.

The only way to change from WinXP Pro to WinXP Home is to format
the drive and start over. There is no supported downgrade path or
technique.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the
order of boot devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
