Is there any sence? I've heard that Windows 2000 is faster and more reliable
than XP. Should I stay with XP or downgrade to Windows 2000 on my Packard
Bell EasyNote R laptop? Wouldn't be there be any driver issue?

My computer characteristics:

System Processor: AMD Turion64
System model: Packard Bell EasyNote R
Total Physical Memory: 512,00 MB
Total Virtual Memory: 2,00 GB
Abvailable Virtual Memory: 1,96 GB
Hard Disk: 80 GB

You are probably better off just disabling the "eye-candy". System
Properties, Advanced, Perfomance Settings

Yes, but what about MSN Explorer, Windows Messenger and NetMeeting? These
programs can hardly be completely removed from the system. Can I install
Windows 2000 on a Windows XP SP2 system and make a dual boot XP/2000, or
2000 should be installed first???

You heard incorrectly, I have no problems on either my win2k or winxp PC's
What exactly are you trying to achieve / resolve?

PS set your virtual memory to win managed

Why are you starting them in the first place. They have NOTHING to do
with the Operating system whether it is XP or 2000. Personally I think
you are contemplating the change based on erroneous assumptions. And
would be further ahead time and frustration wise to just properly
configure the installed XP system.

That said, as to multi boot, it's recommended that the Oldest be
installed first and each be placed on a separate partition. See Windows
help and support "multiple boot". Also this article

Please be aware that Packard Bell may not supply the suitable drivers,
and all programs you wish to use would need to be reloaded. Not to
mention that any "bundled software" on the Factory restore disk will
likely be unavailable.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what exactly do you mean?

Are you referring to all the options listed under Visual Effects?
