I am trying to downgrade from Windows XP Pro to Windows
2002. XP isnt compatible with my scanner software and it
claims that my dvd player doesnt read dvd's despite my
best efforts (short of buying new software for it).

I popped the software in, but since i have a higher level
of windows already in, the cd desnt want to do it. Im not
a computer person, so im really lost.

any help would be appreciated.
thanks

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 CD-Rom or setup disks.
The set of four install disks can be created from your Win2k CD-rom; change
to the \bootdisk directory on the cd-rom and execute makeboot.exe (from dos)
or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

You are going to have to erase and re-install the partition, Abby. You can
do that from your Windows 2000 Setup disk. Once you have done that, the
installation will proceed normally.

Fred.
