I tried to load Windows 2000 on to my computer. Now all
my other applications won't work (they need updates, I
can't afford, yet). Is there a way I can safely down
grade to Win 98? (I don't have any of the Win 98 back up
files). Thanks!

There is no way that I know of to "downgrade". However, in
the future, you can run the setup program with a switch
called /checkupgradeonly and that will run a test on your
hardware and software to see if it is compatible.

You should back up your data files, if you can, then
flatten and reload Win98.

Hope that helps.

Not possible. You'll need to format and reinstall. Have you considered
application compatibility mode?

From the "Run" box
regsvr32 %windir%\AppPatch\slayerui.dll
to enable application compatibility mode.

Are you saying that to load and run win98 you have to reformat HD and then
install 98?
I have, sorta, the same problem.
See post "new user????"..

There is no official method for downgrading from Windows 2000 to Windows 98.
If application compatibility mode does not work, you will need to format and
reinstall Windows.

from: Bubey.....I too had the same problems with Win2000 Prof and gave up. I
tried for over 6 months to get Win2000 to work with little help.
I went back to Win98SE. It's made my life more fun again.
See MS KB Article: 250456. It helped me a lot. I did a complete
reformat of my HD and re-installed my software. I too couldn't
afford to buy upgrades and the compatibility mode didn't work very well
for me. Pay close attention to the part about "Removing NTFS Drives".
You need to be an Administrator to do this, so if you don't know the
Administrators password, set yourself up as a user with Administrator
privileges so you can get to the Recovery Console. Once I got there
the rest was a piece of cake. Good Luck!

P.S.....Thanks to all on this newsgroup who tried to help me previously.
