What are you installing? Almost certainly you don't need SP1a, but
rather you need SP1a or *later* What service pack level are you at?

Which installs are these?

Perhaps you recently installed XP with no Service Packs and you want to
install SP1a before you install SP3? I'm just taking a stab, of course.
Help us out and give us some information, please!

Another option pertaining to my wild stab (installing SP3) is to
download and install SP2 instead of SP1a (unfortunately, you can't go
directly from XP Gold -- i.e., no Service Pack -- to SP3) and *then*
install SP3:
