We are moving form Office 00 to Office XP. For both versions we hav
ticked the box under Tools > Options > Save > "Prompt for documen
properties". When I open a new doc and save it, the doc properties com
up, and when I go to change the name of the document, the do
properties box pops up again, which is what I want. But in XP when I g
to Resave the document and change the name, the doc properties do no
reappear.

Why does it occurr in Office 2000 and not in XP?

Please can someone help?

Thank yo

I hadn't realized that this behavior was new in Word 2002 (though I first
became aware of it there), but it might have something to do with a new
feature introduced in Word 2002 that prevents you from having to use Save
As. If you use the New Document task pane, there is a "New | From existing
document option" that allows you to create a new document based on an
existing document (just as you would create a new document based on a
template). When you do this, the document opens as Document2 (or whatever),
so the first save is a Save As that *will* prompt for document properties.

As a slightly related question, is there any way of getting Word to write
out a new document -- i.e. saving the active document as it currently is,
but leaving it still open and connected to the original disk file.

For example, working on a laptop without a printer, I want to take a
snapshot to diskette, so that I can print it on another PC and carry on
working. As it is, I have to Save, then Save As to A:, close the file, do
something and then reopen the D:\etc\ file.

One for the wish list?

In the File Open or File Save dialog, right-click on the file and select
Sent To Floppy A.

Much safer than using Save As, which will sooner or later guarantee you a
corrupt document.

With the document still open... that is very cool. Thank you for that.
