Double prompt for authentication

Hi Guys

Bit of a problem that I hope you can help with. We have an IIS6 setup
with Frontpage Server Extensions 2002. We have set up all websites
using permissions through frontpage server extensions.

The problem we are having is when someone opens a word document on the
website with the permission of contributor, they are prompted twice for

authentication. If they click cancel both times they can get to the
document. The funny thing is if you set their permission to author
there is no authentication box and they get in first time!

HELP!!!

Thanks
Nick

This is a client side issue with Office.

You can't stop it aside from upgrading Office to the latest service pack for
your version.

Office assumes you want to have a "colaborative" environment and tries to
open the file in read/write mode by default. (I don't think you can turn
that feature off.) You have to press cancel twice to open the file in read
only mode, or authenticate with read/write.

Or have the users right click and download the document before opening it.
