Can I install Vista to a secondary hard drive so that both XP & Vista are
both installed? Or do I have to replace XP with Vista?
If I install both will I get a boot screen asking me which OS to load?
Help would be appreciated.

David

Yes, you can do Double Install. For future reference, the technical term is
"Dual Boot". Yes, an you will get a screen asking you which OS to load. and
as a side note, if your secondary HD is external, it must be connected before
the computer boots from CD/DVD.

Thanks for the reply. I have XP installed on my primary master and Vista on
my secondary master. When I boot up I do NOT get a boot menu screen!
Any suggestions?

interesting. a little hunting in C:\boot.ini.saved tells me to use BCEDIT.exe
to modify boot options. haven't had need to do so. so i won't be of much help
in figuring out how to use it. although i can tell you that it is a
commandline utility. and you will have to use the standard help switch (/?)
to learn how it works.

aah an one more thing. start the command prompt as an administrator. by that
i mean right-click and choose "run as as admin" because Vista likes to keep
you away from powerful utilities.

if you installed Vista to the second drive WHILE the Primary or the original
drive was still connected you do not have XP anymore. well you may be able to
fix the MBR and then make a boot entry in Vista.
in order to have Vista and XP bootable you needed to do a lot more. what
you needed to was unplug the XP drive and then load vista to the destination
drive. once vista is installed and complete then turn off computer and
re-plug XP. at this point you can either make a boot entry in BOOT.ini or use
CMOS to boot into XP. some new BIOS set ups have a boot option by pressing
esc. right after POST. (you'll see a message when the computer is starting up)

sorry though it sounds that you no longer have XP unless when you installed
Vista you chose CLEAN install.

Yes, completely wrong. XP is fine.

If you're having problems, download VistaBootPro and it will clean things
up.
