hello

I have outlook 2003 sp2, I get double emails from various emails. not just
one set of address or provider, I have worked with my hosting and email
provider, they see no doubles on their side of the fence. any suggestions of
how to troubleshoot or resolve this issue.
thanks

Do you have any vanity addresses, such as mike(at)michael.com, and then
a michael(at)michael.com that lands in the same mailbox?

If you have an Anti-Virus set to scan incoming and outgoing mail, turn it off. It is redundant, a sales tool to scare uninformed users into buying something they don't need and a general nuisance. You are already protected by your real time on access scanner so scanning incoming mail is useless. If you think that scanning outgoing mail for viruses is a good idea, you are about 3 steps too late. You can't send what you don't have.

no, I have different profile for each address on the machine. a couple are
on the same domain. (e-mail address removed) and (e-mail address removed) but they
each are on a different profile, with a separate pst file.

I have disabled the virus scan on email. now was that a fix to the problem,
or ? I am looking for the cause and affect of such double emails. is the
virus scan causing this issue.

thank you for your help.

AV set to scan incoming mail "interrupts" the handshake between Outlook and your mail server so that complete information about what has been downloaded and what remains to be downloaded is incomplete. If Outlook checks its markers for what is downloaded and does not see the "completed download" marker for an email, it grabs it again. (Layman explanation here) Turning off AV allows for the handshake to complete.

Thank you, I will see if this corrects the double issue, so far it seems
right on target. now I can say, I have learned something today.

Hi.
I was getting double emails, because I had checked off a box to leave a copy
on the server, so that if I ever needed to get my email by going to the
site..they would be there, too, but if you can get outlook express to work,
try this...if there is a better solution, I would like to hear it, but I did
this to stop the double emails. :)

open outlook express
click on tools
click on accounts
click on the server name you use for your email that are double to highlight
it
click on properties
click on advanced
Is "leave a copy on the server" checked?
uncheck it.

If this doesn't work, I apologize. It did for me.
There may be another way.
If all else fails, you can go back and check it if it doesn't work.
Hope it helps.
I still am trying to figure out why outlook express works when I shut off
windows live one care's firewall, but does not work when the firewall is
on..and outlook express is on my "allow" list. :( Oh well, I have to go to
the site to check my mail.
Thanks:)
Mare
