Help! At some time in the last two months my computer,
running under Windows XP Home, has decided to behave
differently! I have been in the habit of double clicking a
directory in Explorer in order to open that directory but
now a double click sends me into "Search"! Checking bthe
menu by right clicking shows "Search" to be the top item
on that menu. Can anyone please advise me how to get back
to having "Open" as the operation? I hope this makes sense!

Denis,

Click [Start] [Run] and type "REGSVR32 /i SHELL32"

The mouse properties, surely you jest. The OP already stated that Search
was highlighted at the top of the menu on a right click, that means a double
click will select search.

Hello,

Thanks, this solved the same problem I have been experiencing but another problem has cropped up. Previously, opening Windows Explorer (classic) would show directory structure on the left pane (lp) and files and/or subdirectories on the right. Double clicking on a folder in the right panel (rp), the directory structure would expand on the left, and the contents of the folder shwon in the right panel. Now what is happening is double clicking on a folder in the rp opens it in another window. I've looked in the Folder Options to see if I can force the explorer to open in single instances only but without success. Any help in getting the Windows Explorer to behave as before would be much appreciated as unzipping and moving files around is becoming a real hassle.

Regards,

t
