Two possibilities:
1. Did you save the file as a POT (template)? If so, this is what will
happen. You will need to open Windows Explorer, browse to the folder and
change the file extension from "*.pot" to "*.ppt".
2. If #1 is not the case, open Windows Explorer, click the "Tools" menu,
select "Folder Options". Click the "File Types" TAB and scroll down until
you find the "ppt" extension. Select it and click "Advanced" (this might
vary slightly depending on the Windows version you are using). You should
see several actions listed to the left. The action for "Open" is probably
set to the actions for "New". This is what I have on my system (again, the
actual path might vary based on the version you are running). Make sure the
"Open" is similar:
Open - "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\POWERPNT.EXE" "%1"
New - "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\POWERPNT.EXE" /n "%1"
