Hello everyone, just had a question in mind. How will I be able to have my
old OS [XP] and my Vista OS together? Ive been testing vista on a few of my
spear PCs and when I always select upgrade it installs fine but when i get
into the boot menu It has 2 options- select a older version of windows and
Mircosoft Windows.... When I select "select a older version of windows" I get
a blank screen.... I really hope it didn't delete the OS.. Does anyone have
any ideas? Or did I just delete my OS.. Thanks,
Kyle

If you upgraded your XP install to Vista, the XP install is gone. You should
have installed Vista on a separate hard drive/partition

If you installed in on a seperate partition and just upgraded you previous
version of Vista it may have corrupted the boot file. Put your Windows XP
disk in the computer and reboot, do a repair "select the R" vice install
option when it ask you, it will take you to a repair or fix options, type in
fixboot and hit enter, it will ask which drive if you have it partitioned,
select the drive where you have the XP installed. If it is just the boot
menu bad this will fix it.

Okay- but one thing. How could I make a partion safely? Yes I know a few
ways- but im a little scared about corrupting my files.

Do you have un-assigned space on the drive?
No! You will need to shrink an existing partition with a tool like
Partition Magic before you can make un-assigned space into a
partition. (Vista setup will find that space IF you DO NOT do an
Upgrade Existing OS)

In your situation I would not install Vista on your computer. Microsoft
advises not to install Vista pre-release versions on a production or primary
home computer and that if that is the only kind of computer you have to wait
for the official release of Vista (probably January).

There is a way to take a look at Vista without risking your computer,
however. Use Virtual Server 2005 R2 to create a Vista virtual computer.
You will need to have at least 768MB of ram. You do not have to partition
any drives, do any dual-booting, or even burn any dvd's. Vista RC1 is
running nicely in several virtual machines on my computers, albeit a little
more slowly than a standard installation. But it sure works! One thing you
will not see, however, is the Glass effects.
