Hi I am new and not very good at computers but I have an obvious problem.

My pc has been acting strange, whenever I go online adn type something in the search bar it comes up like this: go.......o.....g.........l.... etc. Basically what it seems to do is put dots in everywhere this happens every time but it seems to be when the computer is working to catch up. Eg when I double click on internet exploerer to start up as soon as it loads it puts dots in the search bar. The only way to stop it is to click on the search bar and delete the dots an dthen type in the address quickly. However it is now getting worse adn is happening in my e-mails that I am typing. Although having said that it hasn't happened whilst I am writing this. I assumed it was a virus and have downloaded stinger even though I have Norton, which has got rid of Blaster worm and Sasser worm. But I now think it is a hardware problem as it seems that my computer is waiting to catch up and puting in the dots until it has. I am running Windows XP Pro.

Any help would be great

have you scanned for viruses, adaware, spyware and other nasties ?

Yeah had some spyware etc. but this seems to have gone have checked my files in system 32 and the nasty ones don't appear apart from one, a website suggested deleting services.exe but it won't let me, could that be it? I'm such a girl I hate computers!

Have you a spare keyboard if so try that instead?

If that fails to solve the problem then the file you cant delete is a possible cause and or a virus, if this is the case it would be advantageous to do the following it will determine whether you have a removable virus go here http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/tools.list.html

And download the tools save them in a new folder on your desktop, after you have downloaded them turn OFF system restore, go off line, then run the tools one at a time it will take time so be prepared, if there are viruses these tools WILL remove them.

IF that fails try this.

If you have the XP disc insert it and run the repair?

If that fails then save your work/files/ Etc:

And reinstall XP make sure you do a long format during set up [not quick]

Good luck;)

Do you know I never thought of trying a different keyboard, I am going to borrow a spare one later but will download all of the removal tools as suggested. Thanks I will let you know. It's getting to the point where I will chuck my pc out of the window!
