I've just been trying to download some free software for my new Sony Ericsson phone off their website, but when I tried to install it I get a message saying:
"an error occurred while downloading the file http://www.installengine.com/cert03/dotnetfx/dotnetfx.exe”
I spoke to someone at SonyE's support desk, but they weren't much help other than to say that I should go the Microsoft website and download the latest dotnet framework file. But, since this guy didn't seem too clued in, I'm wary of just going to do that....plus when I looked there were at least 2 or 3 different options of what I could download (86 bit, 64bit etc).
Can anyone help ? I seem to be having a lot of problems with downloading software lately, also linked to some BIG problems I;ve been having with Norton Internet Security 2006 --- which keeps crashing (and from the error message it looks like it's a MS issue). Several (unsuccessful) attempts to resolve that problem with Symantec online help ended in them telling me to download some files from Microsoft (Q811279 XPE SP2 X86 ENU.exe - and - Q815021 XPE SP2 X86 ENU.exe), both of which fail to install and give me a "QFE Installer Error" message, saying that "WEUpdate cannot retrieve information needed from databases".
So, I'm getting increasingly frustrated and increasingly worried about more problems than solutions !!!
