Hi,
my DOS-memory in my new PC with P4C800-Deluxe and Raid 1 is less than in my
older computers(638 instead 655)!
Does Raid/Promise use Dos-memory? or is there another possibility?

Thanks
erich

DOS memory?
unless you use an old version of windows then there is no DOS or DOS memory.
Dos is in the OS not on the MB.

I believe the 875 chipset consumes some low memory (aka DOS mem.) Since
noone still runs DOS on these new systems, Intel probably felt the impact
would no be seen by 99.999% of the users. You could always run DOS inside a
VmWare virtual PC within WindowsXP.

With this VmWare , how would you run a real mode OS such as dos, on a
protected mode OS? I have been looking for such a solution. If you have
used it or know more please let me know

VmWare (http://www.vmware.com) is a software based PC Emulator. It emulates
an entire PC inside a Host Operating System such as Windows 2K/Xp or Linux.
Inside this virtual PC, you can install any operating system of your choice.
It really works well. You can get a free trial from their site and give it
a whirl. You can even run multiple virtual pc's concurrently on the same
system, and all can see each other via the network. It is a great platform
for testing out a new OS, or for developing software that requires multiple
servers (without having to buy the real hardware.)

Now that Nero has given you a spanking for using the term "DOS", let's
see if there is an answer to your question. If, in fact, you are using
DOS, the amount of available memory is probably reduced due to the
Promise card inserting it's BIOS code into the memory space.
