How do I start my computer in DOS and not allow Windows
2000 to automatically load when the PC is switched on. I
know you can have DOS running while Windows is running by
typing CMD in the start menu but I don't want Windows
running, like I use to do with Windows 98.

I guess it isn't windows that you don't want to start, but a task you
want to do in plain dos like flashing a bios.
For that you'll need a boot floppy/cd. Have a look at www.bootdisk.com
or www.ultimatebootcd.com if you haven't such a disk laying around.

If the PC has still the old DOS/w98 installed there might be some
settings in the hidden file boot.ini on your boot (c:) drive wrong.

To boot from floppy /cd it might also be necessary to change the boot
order in your bios.

Otherwise David is right, there is no DOS inside win NT/2K/XP.

Hi,

That is not possible, as there is no DOS to boot into.

You can use a DOS boot floppy, but that's not quite the same thing.

What is it you want to do, exactly?

If I knew "why" he wanted to go to Dos I could give more help. But he is posting a question about a non existant "solution". He should post his problem.
