Could someone please enlighten me to as why Microsoft does not use the great
Torrent for the download technology? They must be crazy?!

You'll have to ask Microsoft. This is not a managed newsgroup and you will
not get an answer from them here.

Are you for real? I think they should, however,
in their eyes it would be like giving their blessing
to a technology that is used to download music,
movies, and software- much of it pirated.

The same reason Microsoft does not for other Microsoft products.
Microsoft keeps control of it's products.
It is not uncommon for programs distributed in such a way to be deliberately
changed, modified or otherwise contaminated with malware.
Microsoft can also start and stop distribution immediately if problems
arise.
They may be called crazy if they gave control to others and thus lost
control of the quality of the downloaded product.

BITS works well and they don't seem ready to change. I do agree that
torrent technology is pretty useful, although the guy that invented it is a
little.....unusual.

Chris Perillo set up a Torrent for downloading Beta 2 and MSFT sent him a
cease and desist. Jupiter captured it well.

MS cannot vouch for the integrity of files hosted on machines that are not
their own. From my perspective, that's pretty much it and nothing else.

We have to be patient, however try to download Vista from here (I suggest to
use the link in the left side of the page: Akamai is very efficient!):
http://download.windowsvista.com/preview/beta2/en/x86/download.htm
This morning I got Vista from that link in less than 2 hours (ADSL 4 Mbps).
Good luck!

It may not be the download. MS is reporting that more than three quarters
of file errors during installation are due not to the download but to the
burn speed used to make the dvd. MS reports that using your slowest
possible burn speed almost always resolves this.
