Anybody:
I have an envelope at the beginning of a document, and it is being counted
in the document as 1 page, thereby being added to the total reported pages in
the document in the footer field that's formatted like this: "page ? of ?
pages". By so doing, it addes an unwanted page to the total 'of ? pages'
field, thereby reporting the wrong number of pages in the document.
I don't want the envelope to be included in the total page count.
How can I tell word to ignore the envelope, so it won't count it as a page
in the total page count?
Thanks ... Chris H

Use the following field construction to get the desired number of pages in
the document

{ = { NUMPAGES } - 1 }

Or, if the document proper only contains one Section, you could use the {
SECTIONPAGES } field (alone) in place of the { NUMPAGES } field.

If using the first method, you must use Ctrl+F9 to insert each pair of field
delimiters { } and you use Alt+F9 to toggle off their display.

If this is the typical letter with envelope attached, then the envelope is
section 1 and the rest of the letter is section 2, so you should be able to
use the SectionPages field instead of NumPages for the Y value in Page X of
Y.
