Don't start program

How do I stop a program from starting? To my
camera (Nikon COOLPIX 885) I got a program for
picture transfer (NkVwMon.exe) that used to take
about 7 % of the processor power doing absolutly
nothing. Since I got an USB memory (SanDisk
Cruzer Micro) it is using more the 20 % percent
of the cpu power, working against the usb-memory
(the lamp is flickering) doing absolutly nothing.

I do not want to uninstall the Nikon software but
I think that when I want to transfer some pictures
I can start the software manually. I can use the
Task Manager to stop NkVwMon but I think that
should not be nessesary.

If I use msconfig to remove NkVwMon I can not get
a Normal Startup, I have to make a Selective
Startup. I do not know if it really matters but I
do not understand why I must not use a Normal
Startup without NkVwMon.

I have checked SYSTEM.INI, WIN.INI and BOOT.INI,
none of them mentions NkVwMon.

I am using XP Pro SP2.

Thanks for any help.

The first thing to do is check in the camera software to see if there
are options to not have the program start with Windows. If there are,
use those.

If the camera software doesn't offer the preferences you want, use
msconfig like you did. There is nothing wrong with having a Selective
Startup. It just means you made some choices, not that anything is
wrong! Just put a tick in the box that comes up after you reboot to say
basically "don't bother me about this again".
