Don't See All Newsgroups Messages

If I change my view to Show All Messages, I see messages from June on the
server right now. Could that be your problem: you've set the view Hide Read
Messages? Also, see what happens if you use Tools | Get New Headers.

Instead of using a browser for the MS Newsgroups, I am now using Outlook
Express.

For the Excel groups, I get messages back to July. For Access, however, I
only get messages dating back to 9-11 (so, only 3 days).

I checked the options and changed the header settings from 300 to 1000.
Once I re-open Outlook Express, I still don't see a difference.

What settings do I need to change to review/research more than just 3 days
of newsgroups postings?

Did you try clicking Tools -> Get Next 1000 Headers?

Doug,

yes, that worked!

In addition, you can just uncheck this and not limit the # of headers.

I did all the operations mentionned previously in the group
but I still cant see more than 2 days !

Right-click the newsgroup and choose properties. Go to Local File, and
click on Reset. That will reset the newsgroup and re-download all headers.

I don't know what else to suggest, however perhaps you should ask in the
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress
newsgroup, as that's where the Outlook Express experts are.

Thanx Joan for the hint
but... I still cant see more than 2 days.

You're still limited to the store of messages that your news server
maintains. It's quite likely that the news server you're connecting to
keeps its storage requirements down by keeping a limited archive.
Microsoft's own public news server is available for the
microsoft.public.* groups, and it keeps all messages for quite a long
time -- months, I think. Try setting up a news account connecting to
server "msnews.microsoft.com" -- it doesn't require you to log in -- and
use that for the microsoft.public.* groups.

Thank you all. I also think that the problem is due to the news server I am
obliged to connect. It even limits the number of news groups available. I
discover that using explorer to reach the community. I will try connecting
by modem instead of network so I could connect msnews.microsoft.com. And
again thanks.
