Don't overwrite folder on remote site when publishing

I have a folder on the server /forum that I do not want FP to do anything
with when I publish the site. The remote server location is the correct
version and if the local system overwrites it, then we lose everything.

I can't find a way to tell MS FP to ignore this directory and never try to
remove it from the other site.

running a forum?
put the forum in subweb (if host allows subwebs) - then don't publish to the subweb.

Thanks, but that won't work. The forum has been in the same location for
nearly 3-years and is bookmarked by many. If I change the location then
everyone will need to re-link back to the fourm.

The last version of FP was easy to tell it to ignore the directory, I can't
believe that is a feature that went away.

Thanks for posting.

Try http://www.jimcoaddins.com Jim has a add-in called Selective Publish (Charity Ware) which will allow you to Don't Publish entire folders. Currently with FP you'd have to Don't Publish individual files (tedious).

That might work for you.

You could do a subweb with a re-direct from the original folder to the new forum subweb. That'd solve the bookmark problem.

Converting a folder to a subweb does not change it name nor it location within the web, so it would
have no impact on your site visitors. No version of FP has the ability to mark a folder to not be
published.

Thanks to both of you, I will try the free add-in 1st, I installed it and
marked the files as "don't publish" if that does not work, then I will create
the "subweb"

I do want to say that I have never received such good replies, so fast in
any forum ever.

Your time is greatly appreciated.
