Yes this is really dumb.... I installed a raptor sata drive to my com
recently as I got only the hard drive no instructions, wasn't even in
box (so much for being a retail) I thought it was simple but have foun
that I need to add the driver for it to work as a sata, at the momen
it's recognised as a IDE.
My question is as I have to reformat the drive and add the driver
during XP install can I register XP afterwards is there a limit t
registering with microsoft also as I want to get it right this time i
there anything else I should do. It is set correctly in the bios (
have a ABIT A17 motherboard

The drive works, and you're running Windows from it now....is that correct?

You don't have to register with microsoft at all. You do have to
activate within 30 days of doing a new install. If you go beyond 30
days, you can still activate, you just can't do anything else until you
do.

See below:

Which MAY be COMPLETELY NORMAL. Is the drive
accessible/working?

Certain Intel chipsets take full advantage of SATA while
showing themselves to XP as IDE. You may be setting
yourself up for a completely unecessary reinstall.

If XP sees the drive, and hasn't zapped it with a yellow
exclamation point, you're probably all set.

Run some performance tests, check with the drive mgfr.,
go to support.intel.com and check it out before you waste
all your time reinstalling.

Hi and yes the drive is working it's the only one in the computer and
i'm useing it now, I ran western digitals drive scanner and it said it
was working ok so I guess it must be. I have been having problems with
this comp since I got it and have replaced everything except prossecor
and 2 sticks of ram after reading threads here I realised I hadn't
installed the drivers, as she is still a wee bit unstable and I thought
it could be that.

What V Green said is what I would have said. This may be proper. Performance
tests are often difficult to use as a basis, largely because you don't know
how this drive would score in another--supposedly perfect--machine. Maybe
the same, maybe better, maybe worse.

Haven't you ever heard of punctuation? Commas and periods, for example, do
have a purpose. No one wants to read a long drawn out sentence that rambles
on forever.

HOW RUDE! I didn't realise that I needed a diploma in Englis
Literature to post here. I thought this site was for computer problems
not language, ok so my grammar is not great, I don't know about comma
and periods but you don't need to bad mouth it.
I asked for help with my computer not an english lesson.
Thank you for embarrassing me.
I won't be using this site again..

Good, and by the way, it's not "a diploma in English literature", it's
called "grade school grammar". So if you want to stop being insulted, start
learning how to communicate - or just let the world pass you by. Poor
communication skills make it difficult, if not impossible, to participate in
an intelligent discussion on any subject - whether it be about computers or
anything else.

I for one, find you very offensive.
There are very many people out there who have learning disabilities
such as dyslexia, and cannot be as "intelligent" as you, but do yo
have a go at them!? I would certainly hope not! How do you know tha
the person you are talking to online, has not got a learnin
disability!? Or are you a clairvoyant as well?! To be honest, I don
think your intelligent, i think, sorry, KNOW, that you are pathetic.
If your sad life is made up of joining forums and having a go at thos
who make spelling or grammar mistakes, then YOU are the one who i
letting life pass you by!
It is you who should be leaving this forum, as it's people like you wh
ruin things for everyone else.
I am appalled at the way you treat people here, and i'm sure i'm no
alone when saying that. So, do us all a favour and **** off

Tough world, isn't it? Those who don't try, fall behind. Hopefully I gave
the lady some food for thought and hopefully she will seek paths for success
by improving her skills - which, in the USA today seem to be sadly lacking.
In fact, it is a disgrace and a national disaster in the making because the
average young American is falling way behind the average young Asian or
average young European - especially in math and the sciences.

This is what is truly pathetic.
