I am locked out from my home PC because windows password
is needed and not known (PC was bought from private party
who got it at corp auction). As a result, I can't access
Windows or my files.

Tried to go in SafeMode starttup but still requires
Administrator password to login to Windows.

I've been using computer for over a year and have all my
files on it. I ran into ISP connection problems yesterday
and in process of trying to find out what was wrong, I
must have switched to "Administrator" user that requires
password

Prior to yesterday, I automatically logged into Windows
without being asked for any password.

any help mcuh appreciated

Hi there, I found myself in a similar situation what you
do is type "Administrator" and then just "enter" and it
should take you to your files. At least it worked for me.

Q321305 How to Log On to Windows XP If You Forget Your
Password
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-
US;Q321305

http://securityadmin.info/faq.htm#password

Reboot to Safe Mode, select Administrator, leave password
blank.
Then go to User Accounts in Control Panel and
delete/change the
password.

You do not need to reinstall if you forgot the admin or
any other password.

There is a boot disk you can download at:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html

that will let you reset the password of any account on
NT4, Windows2000 or
XP.

Just follow all the default settings which are for the
admin account.

For an Win2k AD domain controller, you need to do more
than that:
