Hi, Denise!

If you have OFFICE XP then Power Point should be
already installed, just look in the "All programs" tab
and you should see it. But if what you have is HOME XP
then it doesn't come with Power Point. Your computer will
run fine with any one of these versions. Power Point is
just a program that is usually part of the MS OFFICE pack
(Word, Excel, Power Point & Outlook) but you can also
purchase it alone if that is all you need. In any case if
you are supposed to have Power Point and don't have it
you should contact the place where you purchased your
computer or the manufacterer (Compaq, Dell, Gateway, etc.)
Hope this answers your questions.

Did your computer come with any MS Office components installed? There are
several versions of this collection of application programs and none of them
come standard with Windows Operating Systems. They are NOT automatically
installed on all Windows computers. It is sometimes included in software
bundles that manufacturers preload a computer with, but not often due to the
cost of the full MS Office Suite (~$500 USD).

If you just want to view a PowerPoint file without editing it, your can
download the free viewer file from Microsoft. (Free) See this link:

If your son/daughter wants to create or edit PowerPoint files, then you will
need to buy the software (MS PowerPoint 2002). Be careful not to buy an
upgrade version, since you do not have a version of PowerPoint to upgrade
from. (~$229 USD)

In a very short time (within the month), PowerPoint 2003 will become
available to the public. You may want to wait briefly and purchase the most
recent version, or shop for discounts on PowerPoint 2002 (also called
PowerPoint XP).
