don't have an adminstrative password help!

My computer is asking for an admin password to repair xp. I don't have one...dell installed it and they are saying in order to fix the problem (instead of giving me a password) they have to reinstall and lose all my files. What do i do?
 
Are you are talking about the Recovery Console and no password was ever
set? As described here.

All you need to do is;
Download the correct executable for the boot disks, home or pro.
Run the executable to create the boot floppies (6), or just use one
disk, since the file you need is created on the last disk.
Copy the file, Spcmdcon.sys, to the (hidden) cmdcons folder.
Enter and log on to the RC.
