Done all the RPC stuff recommended and it's still broken

I had the RPC problem despite starting up the first time with all the correct downloads, firewalls and virus scan. I ran McAfee Stinger and it said virus free. I went to Kelly's site and followed all those instructions. I've done everything recommended on this site. No longer get the RPC thing, but I can't access regedit, msconfig or anything from run without it quitting. I have run every separate virus can from McAfee security and manually checked for every file. Comes up clean. Please help with the quit thing. Something's not right. Since I just got this computer and XP and spent hours transferring and re-installing data, I really hate to have to reformat and reinstall XP. Cause if I have to do that I might as well throw XP out and go back to 2000.

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

I ran spyware, Qwik-fix and did all the recommendations and fixes on the web site. No more shutdowns and according to all the programs, no spyware (although I did have a few) or viruses. Still can't get programs to stop quitting. I did download the emergency tools file to edit regedit and msconfig. And, at startup the "You have made changes to the System Configuration Utility..." dialog runs, then opens sysconfig, then quits. Anything I put in RUN quits. Other than changes to registry made by security programs utilized, I've made no manual changes to Registry. I"m at a loss. I was thinking about running diagnostic startup to see what turns up. But, not being familiar with XP, am not sure what to look for. Any help would be appreciated.
