Hello,

I think I read sometime somewhere that one should't install Domino mail
server and AD domain controller in to the same machine. Is this true? What
are the consequenses?

Thanks

I don't know - I haven't had to use it in a long time. Check the IBM website
so you're getting the info straight from the horse's mouth.

In general, though, I can say that if you want the best performance, and the
easiest disaster recovery, mail servers should run on member servers.

Will,

I am not aware of any specific issues, but that enterprise systems should be
isolated rather than on the same machine here. Both AD and Domino will tell
you that this is not a recommended solution.

William,

I think that both Lanwench and Ryan have given you the appropriate answer.

Generally speaking, finances permitting, you do not want to install
'services' on a Domain Controller. By 'services' I mean Exchange 2000 /
Exchange 2003 ( or similar ) or SQL ( or similar ). However, please note
that Microsoft is starting to change its stance on this sort of things.
Server consolidation seems to be gaining!

I would not install any e-mail system on a Domain Controller if possible.

We tried to run a Domino server on one of our servers running Active
Directory and found that there is conflict over which service gets control
of LDAP (port 389). We didn't need AD on that machine, so I ditched the
AD-integrated zone in DNS and replaced it with a secondary zone that was a
copy from the zone on the PDC. Seems to have worked well so far (fingers
crossed)....
