In the middle of investigating another issue i came across this one.
I am trying to go into AD Domains and Trusts and connect to one of my DC's.
there are 3. I right click on the Active Directory Domains and Trusts and i
see that there are 3 DC's to choose from. However, no matter which one i
choose it does nothing after i click it. i click to expand the domain and no
DC appears. ?? has anyone else experienced this issue before?

Tony

that is the Domains and Trust MMC. You can right click the domain and select
manage and AD users and computers will be opened or you can open AD users
and computers yourself from the admin tools

I am not looking to get into the ADUC. i can access that as a seperate snapin
if i want to manage users or computers. what i am trying to do is
veiw/change FSMO's.

Thanks
Tony

my appologies i am in fact able to view roles and change them from there.
but this does not answer why i am unable to load/view a DC in domains and
trusts.

Thanks

You cannot view DCs from the AD Domains and Trusts snap-in. Use ADUC and
look in the Domain Controllers OU

You can however right click the top node and select connect to domain
controller

"You can however right click the top node and select connect to domain
controller"

Thats what im saying, i can't! i know how to perform these tasks, and altho
i thank you for the information. i am not new to this and it was NOT my
question.

HOWEVER once again my question was: why when i select the top node am i NOT
able to connect to a domain controller???

Thanks

No DCs will appear in AD Domains and Trusts.

When you right click and select "Connect to Domain Controller" the current
domain controller you are connected to is displayed in the dialog. After you
connect to the DC you want to, you can verify you are connected to DC by
using the connect to domain controller dialog again.
If you are, then you can transfer the Domain Naming Master FSMO role to the
DC you are currently connected to.

thank you for clearing it up. i realized this only after i made my last post
so i appologize to all for the show of frustration

thanks again.
