Out of the blue, laptop user receives error logging into
local domain (off of network)"One of the files containing
the system's registry data had to be recovered by use of
a log or alternate copy." When he is attached to domain,
no error. Off the docking staton, log back into local
domain, error again!

Have removed user, recreated user profile. Problem
reoccurs. Have checked typical registry entries,
HKLM/Soft/MS/Wind/Run, Run Once, etc. System runs McAfee
ASAP, scanned clean.

Help!
Thanks in advance

I have seen this problem before. When the user is
attached to the network and logs in, the computer verifies
the info at the network domain level. When the user is
not attached to the network the computer still thinks it
should look at the network domain to verify the user, so
you must change where the computer looks. Reboot the
computer, and when you see the login box change where the
computer verifies the info. Example: I have a Novell
network, and when a Windows XP computer arrives at the
novell login screen I can click on the advance button then
select the windows tab and select a domain computer or a
local computer to verify info. I hope I was able to
explain it well enough for you, but if not then email me
at (e-mail address removed).
