Domain Users Can't Share Folders

I've got a Windows XP Pro machine that is a member of a
domain. I want to share a folder and allow a particular
domain user to access it whilst keeping everyone else out.
I right-click on the folder and select "Sharing and
Security...". I then click on the "Share this folder"
radio button and then click on the "Permissions" button. I
remove the default 'Everyone' read-only access and then
click on the "Add..." button. The "Select Users or Groups"
dialog appears. The "From this location" field has the
name of the machine in it. Since I want a domain user, I
click on the "Locations..." button. Up comes
the "Locations" dialog with the machine name in the list
and "Entire Directory" (nothing else). I open the "Entire
Directory", but it is empty. If I enter something
like "DOMAIN\user.name" in the "Enter the object names to
select" field, I get a "Name Not Found" dialog telling me
that "DOMAIN\user.name" is not from a domain listed in the
Select Location dialog box and thus not valid.

How do I go about getting the domain name to show up in
the "Locations" dialog box?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

check DNS settings on your WindowsXP Pro PC. It should point to the DNS
where resource records are stored for your domain. It should not point to
e.g. your ISP DNS directly...
