Hi

I am coming up to speed on using W2k server so please bear with me. I run W2k server on a box that also runs DNS and a domian that is registed along with AD, RAS etc. The box is behind a Cisco firewall

My friend runs a W2K SBS that also has a registered domain behind a firewall and the usuall stuff. He has asked me if I could use my box as a backup DC for him that could be updated over VPN link from his box to mine. I have searched the internet trying to find a similar situation but have not. If someone could type out the general steps for me to make my box another domain controller for my friends domain (even though we use two seperate domain names) and how to do this over a secure link, like a vpn, I would appreaciate it

Thanks

You say that your box has AD which would mean it is a domain controller. It would be
impossible for your dc to also be a dc for another domain. Assuming it was not a dc
and you had a vpn connection between the two networks, You would have to configure
your server to point to his domain controller as it's dns server by it's lan ip
address and then run dcpromo on it and select option of additional domain controller
for existing domain and add his domain name and go from there. --- Steve

Can't do. SBS won't allow trusts. Your box would have to be a memberserver
in his domain.
