Domain Synchronization problem

We had a problem at our organization where our Net Admin (who was released)
claimed a drive was failing in the cluster so he dismantled the cluster and
had our people purchase stand alone server(s) to replace the clustered
environment. I asked our former Administrator and he said this was not the
why to go.

When he put the new server online he used a new name for the new server.
Then he took the cluster down and renamed the new server with original
server's name. as you know this created all sorts of problems with all sorts
of problems with file permissions, personal folder redirect, printing,
shares and so on........this was about three months ago and most of those
issues have been corrected. We have one issue that will not go away. Since
the renaming of the server many of the domain computers are still trying to
synchronize with the replacement server's original name. Is there a way to
stop the pc's from trying to synchronize with this server name that no
longer exist? The only way I know to fix it this is to reimage the system
pc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

That sounds like a fine mess.

So the pc's are trying to synch with Server "A" and there is no longer a
Server "A"?

Would it be helpful to have the new Server "B" answer to "Server "A"
requests? You can do this if that would help; I realize that is only a
shortcut.
