I want to create an internal domain for learning purposes. When I create the
domain name is it ok if it matches the domain name I registered with ICANN?
What problems might it cause me?

It's ok, and there may be better choices.

Some other choices include:

Child of your registered domain: corp.domain.com

Similar name with private final tag: domain.local

A (technically) registered but mainly private version
of your domain name: domain.net, domain.org

The main (only?) problem is that your internal users
will NOT be able to address your PUBLIC web server
by it's base domain name, e.g., domain.com, but will
need to type the full www.domain.com.

This only affects internal users. It isn't much of an
issue since in IE you type "domain<ctrl-Enter>" and
avoid the issue. It is an issue though.

Why does it happen? All DCs register the base domain
name and so it interferes with this common alias for
the company web server.
