I recently had a server failure which required a warranty
replacement of the whole server. Although I have set up
the server, as far as I can tell, with the same server
name and the same domain name (the one recommended by
Small Business Server) the network pcs will not log on to
the domain.

I have the same DNS settings, neither server is set as
DHCP. Any help would be appreciated.

Why aren't you using DHCP? SBS is much happier with that.
Have you rejoined the clients?

Alex,
If the only DC in your network is failed and you recreate the Domain
name with same settings clients will not be able to logon to this Domain
unless you rejoin them back. The reason for this is GUIDs are never reused
even if you recreate the Domain with the exact same name.
To get your computers back on domain
1. Put the client computers in a workgroup
2. Rejoin the client computers to the newly created Domain.

Hope this helps

Thanks,
Pavan

A bit of a saga with DHCP. I am using a 3Com OCR Router
and no matter what I tried with DHCP either on the SBS or
setting the router as an OCR server the 3Com setup
software could not sse the MAC address of the router and
therefor I could not set the IP address, in the end I
disabled DHCP and entered the data manually and and
configured the router that way.

What I have not tried to do is enable DHCP again now the
router is configured. Is that worth a try?
Have you rejoined the clients?

I have tried to rejoin one client, but when I tried to
join the domain I was informed that the Domain was already
set up and that I could not continue. Should I delete the
domain on the client and rejoin? And if so how?

Regards,

Alex

Sure you can try. Like I said, SBS will be happier. Make sure you turn of
the DHCP on that router though.

Flip the clients into a workgroup, reboot, rejoin.
