I upgraded my NT4 machine to 2000. The NT domain was
COMPANY_NT. When AD was installed I created a new domain
called COMPANY, it said the forest is also called
COMPANY. The DNS name for the domain is COMPANy.

However it tells me the NetBIOS name for the domain is
still COMPANY_NT and when the install was complete, and I
log into this machine it shows COMPANY_NT for the domain.
Am I missing something here? I expected to be logging
into COMPANY.

The name on the bottom of the gina is the netbios name of the domain.

Ok, but does that not ever go away/be eliminated as AD
will utilize DNS for service advertising and request? If
I login with Administrator with domain company (the
pre2000 name) or as (e-mail address removed) what is the
difference? Sorry but I am just a bit foggy on the
concept.

As far as I know it is a name resolution activity. It doesn't go away.
