Hi.

Our company is changing its name. Our plan is to move our
Netware F/P to 2003 server and upgrade both DC's and
Exchange Server to 2003 alos so we can change the domain
name. We will have 10 other servers that must remain 2000
for a bit. If we change the domain of the DC's, and
Exchange server and set up a trust with the old domain and
W2K servers will this work in theory?

Thanks.

Yes, what you ask for is a multiple forest scenario one new created forest
running in Windows Server 2003 mode and the existing domain running
Windows2000 Mixed or Native Mode. a trust can be established between threes
two. but I don't see this as good solution because this provide hard
administration and poor integration and also required multiple Exchange
Organizations.

My advice here is to use ADMT (Active Directory Migration Tool). First setup
your new domain, then migrate over objects and verify the migration. If the
migration feels successful take it in action and demote the old domain.

Download details: Active Directory Migration Tool v.2.0

will this ADMT v2 takes care of mail enabled accounts
also? that is, will this tool takes care of the
Exchange/AD integration so that user accounts and mail
boxes associated with them including distribution
membership migrate to new domain whether it's intra or
inter forest? thanks.
