In a test environment I have...
2 W2000 SP3 DNS servers in domain "test" (the root)
2 W2000 SP3 DNS servers in domain "child.test"
child has been delegated from test.
_msdcs.test is AD integrated on the root server and
imported as a secondary zones on all other DNS servers.
From any w2000 device in the child.test domain performing
nslookup dnsroot1.test does...
a) query for dnsroot1.test.child.test ...this fails
b) query for dnsroot1.test ...this works
It appears w2000 is always appending the domain name
irrespective of whether the name is already qualified.
(append "parent dns name for unqualified names" is
checked...but then I want this on...)
Obviously I do not want dns traffic duplicated with the
xtra packet.
Anybody else had this prob ?
I have searched technet and SP4 etc.
I am wondering if it's because we are using a stub domain
name as the root...ie "test" and not "test.com".
(and before I rebuild the lot....I thought I'd ask)
thanks in advance.
