Hi Folks:
I just installed a new WIN2K Server. We basically wiped out our old NT 4.0
Server and installed (not upgraded) to a new installation of WIN2K-SP4. No
one has been able logon on the the server ABC01.

When I try to join the domian from a Win2k PRO I get the following message.
Network Identification (headline on dialogue box)
The following error occured ateempting to join domian :"ABC"
The Network name cannot be found.
This happens even if the workstation has static ip address. I can go to
internet (through Linksys router connected to HUB). The DC does have two
network cards. One of tyhe NICs is disabled.

I have been able to ping domain controller ABC01 by both name (ABC01) and IP
address (10.0.0.1) from all workstations without exception.
Furthermore I cannot join from WIN9X worksytaions also. I have tried turning
DHCP on and off for about a week. Articles in Microsoft Knowledge base do
not help either.

Please help.

I thank you for your time.

Install the support tools on your DC's.

(Windows 2000 CD, support\tools directory).

then run the following...

netdiag /v
dcdiag /v

That will give you a general idea of how healthy the DNS is within your
environment. DNS if not done correctly can make your world stink quickly. :)

Check the bindingorder of your nics in Network connections, advanced,
advanced. Make sure the internal nic is on top.
Do you have WINS installed on the server? W9x needs it.
What does the ipconfig/all look like?
