Domain does not exist or could not be contacted

Trying to add a new user. I browse the picker and select a user. I
then get the message:

Processing of object dadada failed with the following error:
The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.

I browsed through the picker connected to the domain. How could this
be?

Check, that you are pointing your DNS settings to your internal DNS server
and not to your ISP's. Also check, that you have configured a reverselookup
zone on your DNS server.
