In my network I had a win2k domain controler and an
additional domain controler as well. My master domain
controler failed due to a hard disk problem. But the
additional DC is woring fine. The problem I have is I
cannot add new users or do any new configuration to the AD.

How can I promote this additional domain controler to be
the master domain controler for the domain. So that I can
create new users and assign new configurations to the AD.

The likely cause of your problem is the fact that the
server that fell over was propably the first DC you setup
in the domain.

If this is the case then the reason is that that server
held FSMO (Flexible Single Mater Operations) roles. You
can read about the FSMO roles in the Windows 2000 help
file (It is actually helpful this time round).

What you need to do is seize the roles to the other DC in
your domain. Take note of the warnings mentioned regarding
this operation. The Windows 2000 help file also contains
the procedure for this.

Good luck
Hope this helps
