domain can span multiple subnets. Can you clarify your question, so that we
can provide a better solution ?

yes. you will have to route them somehow. either using NAT or someother
static route or a router in the middle. if you want one subnet as
192.168.0.x and the other 192.168.1.x then you can make the subnet mask
255.255.0.0. if you want to have one at 192.168.x.x and the other at
10.10.x.x then you will need some sort of routing device eiter NAT or
router.

Sorry, yes.

I'm trying to set up a domain from scratch, with one part
of the network on one subnet and the other on another
(these can be anything). I want one domain controller on
one subnet, and another domain controller on the other
subnet.

What's the easiest way to go about doing this?

First make sure, that both subnets are fully routable (using routes or Layer
3 switch), and then install each DC in its own subnet. DNS will handle name
resolution. If you are going to support down-level clients (Win9x/Me/NT),
then install WINS server for network browsing to function properly.
If those subnets are connected with WAN, then you would have to create two
sites (in AD sites and services) and associate each site with its own subnet
object. Place each DC in its site and setup replication
If this is on the same LAN, then leave both DC in the same site. That is
more or less it.

And what Paul said about IPs and subnet masks would
work? When I was reading up about this I thought it
would, but then it seemed to good to be true, so to speak.
I could have one subnet as 192.168.30.0 and the other as
192.168.40.0 and a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0?

Then just set up the DCs as normal and put the second one
on the same domain?

Thanks for your help by the way. Really appreciate
this...
