We are in the process of moving our Windows 2000 DC and
exchange server to a new site but we need to change the IP
address of the server is this possible or is there any
special way of doing this? could it cause any problems?

Thanks

You can change DC ip address w/o problems. Just make sure, that you restart
netlogon service after that, as DC needs to re register its records in DNS.
Also make sure, that if this DC was also a DNS server, that you clients
point to this new IP address.
