Do AD computer accounts contain any information on the physical properties of domain computers, other than their computer name? The reason I ask is, when I perform a hardware modification (add a new DVD drive, for instance), I receive an error message when logging on stating that my "computer account was not found." This problem is easily fixed by rejoining the computer to the domain; although this fixes the problem, it is an inconvenience. Is this normal behavior?

Not normal behaviour.

No they contain no info on physical devices on your system. How often does
this happens ? something is resetting your computer account and this way it
loses connection with your domain.
