I run two computers at home, one with Win Me and the other 98se. These are
linked together with a router/modem. I have a work laptop running Win2000;
my employer has me logging on to a domain. If I change the config of my
laptop from domain to workgroup computing I can see my home computers but
then the option to logon to the domain when I get back to work has
disappeared. So long as I can see my workgroup then I can link to a
printer (which is the aim of the exercise). I suppose I could plug in a T
switch but that means more cables (parallel ones at that) which seems so
unnecessary.
Question (1) is therefore how to set up a separate profile (correct term?)
to enable me to logon to the laptop at home in such a way that I can see my
home computers on their workgroup. However, things are (possibly) confused
by question 2. Question (2) is; once I can see my home printer I still
want to be able to run the Nortel VPN which gets me back to the company
servers from home and then use Outlook to access my e-mail. I suspect this
is mainly a case of keeping the password for my home workgroup and work
domain synchronised. Finally, Question 3 is about logon. One of the
options is to logon to my work domain using dial up. Two problems here (a)
how do I get my VPN to run in this environment. (b) I'm not actually
dialling up, I'm going across my LAN to an ADSL Gateway/Modem/Router and the
option to go via Ethernet is not offered to me.
