how to change the existing "domainB.com" to be a subdomain of "domainA.com"
??

I am assuming your domains are Windows 2000?

domainA would be the parent domain and you want domainb to become a child
domain.

You create the parent - child domain setup during dcpromo when bring up the
child domain.

If you need to retain the domain name for domainB you will have to run
dcpromo to remove AD (you will loose all user/domain info) then run dcpromo
again and on the Create Tree or Child Domain page select "create new child
domain for an existing domain tree".

You could do it by a domain rename...
For starters, a domain rename is only possible when your forest is at
Forest Functional Level Windows Server 2003 and if it contains
Exchange, only Exchange 2003 WITH SP1 are supported! All other
situations do not allow or support domain rename! However, I’m not
sure about other MS AD enabled apps (like SMS, etc.)

The domain rename procedure is a procedure that affects YOUR COMPLETE
FOREST! I would think twice before doing it or before recommending it.
As a safe measure I would want to have a Disaster Recovery Plan
available to recover the forest if something went wrong. If all other
options are not available I would want to copy my production
environment into a test environment and test test test test.... I
would also test the Disaster Recovery plan to be sure it will work!

You however, have another option to think about. Why not create a new
subdomain (NetBIOS name must be different though) and migrate the
contents of the old domain to the new domain?
Do an impact and risk analysis of both to determine what is best for
you.

DJ Tony,

There are a couple of possibilities on how to do this. The question is: why
do you want to create a sub-domain. While I am sure that you have a good
reason there is *generally* few good reasons to do so.....whatever 'good'
might mean!
