doing reinstallation over existing xp to clean it up

F

Fin

Is it possible to do a installation and keep all my other files in tact like
email files/documents and things and applications over an existing XP

I want to replace some files. I know that there maybe other ways to fix my
problem but I am just asking is this possible and will it restore my xp to
original fresh condition.,

Will it repair it to its oriignal state?

Hi

XP will be installed over the top of itself - retaining your settings, files
and programs.

Hi

If you are running SP2, do you have a SP2 CD to perform the 'Repair' with?
If not, and you try the 'Repair' with an earlier version of XP you will see
an error message stating that a newer version of XP is already installed.
To get over this error message you can create a slipstreamed SP2 CD:

You can download the SP2 file (266 MBs) from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en -
or if you have a copy of the SP2 CD, you can copy the xpsp2.exe file from
that CD onto your hard disk/partition and use that:

then follow the directions in the following article to create a slipstreamed
XP CD:
